87 Super Helpful Self Reflection Questions for Personal Growth

TL;DR [SELF REFLECTION QUESTIONS]: I believe in order to grow, you need to sit down and spend a good amount of time assessing what patterns, mindsets, behaviors, habits, relationships, and routines are impacting the way you live right now. That way, you can move forward knowing what parts of yourself need improving โ€” and there’s no better way to do that besides asking yourself some self reflection questions.

Are you trying to reflect on yourself, but have no idea what the heck to ask?

Don’t worry, friend! I’ve got you! Self reflection is an essential process in becoming a better person because it allows you to think about the things that have shaped who you currently are, and make better decisions for the future. It’s important that you don’t skip this step, no matter how boring or cringy it seems.

If you’re just starting your personal growth journey, I’m going to give you 87 self reflection questions that’ll help you grow. I asked myself all of these, and they gave me a good sense of direction.

Are you ready, Star? Letโ€™s do this!

This post is all about self reflection questions.

What is self reflection, and why is it important?

Self reflection (AKA introspection) is reflecting on different experiences in your life, along with the state of your mental health. Introspection is key to self-growth because it allows you to reflect on your past and current self, and make improvements based on them.

Ideally, self reflection should be something you do throughout your entire life. Even though you’ll never be the BEST version of yourself (if you didn’t already know that, now you know!), you should always strive to become aย betterversion. We’re ever-changing, and introspection is essential to personal growth.

Alright, now that we’ve covered the basics, it’s time to get into these self reflection questions. You can answer as many or as few as you’d like โ€” it’s your self-growth journey!

Whether you answer them in aย journal, in your notes app, or even on a sheet of paper, this process will be super helpful.

Self Reflection Techniques & Exercises:

Before we get to the good stuff, I wanted to share some of the most effective self reflection techniques and exercises. You can either use one of the 87 questions as a starting point or do it your own way!

  • Journalingย | you already know how I feel about journaling, so I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. Journaling is arguably the best way to self reflect because you’re basically writing while you’re reflecting, and that combo is indescribably powerful.
  • Life Auditย | if you didn’t know, a life audit is a self reflection technique where you assess every aspect of your life: your mental health, finances, career, physical health, and relationships. This technique takes a bit longer since it’s so deep and introspective, but I PROMISE it’ll give you a good sense of direction.
  • Future Self Letterย | sending your future self a letter is so effective because you’re communicating directly with them. You get to put on your “future glasses,” hop in a time machine, and talk to your future self.
  • Core Valuesย | the classic core values exercise makes you think about what your values are, and act accordingly.
  • Legacy Questionย | the legacy question is, as you’d expect, a question about your legacy. It’s so impactful because it makes you think about what legacy you want to leave, and change your habits and goals to make sure you’re on track to leave that legacy.
  • Stop-Start-Continue Methodย | with this method, you’re outlining a few things in your life that you’d like to stop, start, and continue doing. In my opinion, this is one of the best, most effective self reflection exercises, as it’s more well-rounded rather than being laser-focused on one thing about yourself.
  • Sit-and-Think Methodย | okay, I may have made this one up, but just roll with it! With this method, you simply sit and think about yourself. Think about the person you used to be, the person you are right now, and the person you want to become.

If you need further explanation or examples, I’ll be writing individual posts on all of these techniques and exercises. Stay on the lookout for them!

Recap

And with that, we’re done! In this post, I shared with you some of my favorite, most introspective self reflection prompts to help you in your personal growth journey.

Whether you’re thinking in the past, present, or future, there’s numerous prompts for any time period you want to write about and reflect on.

Time to Take Action

Now it’s time to take action. I want you to go back and skim through some of the questions and choose one to answer. Ideally, you’ll answer all of them eventually, but for now, just stick with one.

The most effective way to answer any of these questions is by writing them on a piece of paper, so grab a pencil and some paper, and get to writing! Don’t worry about time โ€” just keep writing until your soul tells you to stop. When you’re done, ask yourself how it felt and what you’re going to do with the entry.

If you want, share the question you picked in the comments. I’d love to see what you chose to write about!

Until next time, keep shining, Star โ€” one day at a time.

Check These Out, Star!
