17 Easy Daily Habits That Will Shape You Into a Better Person

TL;DR [DAILY HABITS]: Are you looking for daily habits to improve yourself? Habits, when done intentionally and consistently, can quite literally change your life. In this post, Iโ€™m going to share with you a wide range of daily habits you can implement in your everyday routine.

As dramatic as it may sound, I believe that habits can quietly change your life.

I remember reading James Clearโ€™s โ€œAtomic Habits,โ€ which is a massively popular and loved self-help book that teaches you all about the science behind habits, their importance, and how to form them to become the person you strive to be. Itโ€™s actually the first book I willingly took notes on because it was just THAT good.

Ever since I read that book, Iโ€™ve firmly believed that habits can (and will) change your life. I see them as these tiny, yet mighty things you implement into your daily routine. When you do them consistently, youโ€™re progressively shaping yourself into a better person.

I talk quite a great deal about habits, so this post is absolutely essential. If youโ€™re at the beginning of your self-growth journey (meaning you just recently joined it), I challenge you to add some of these daily habits to your routine and see how they quietly transform you over time.

Are you ready, Star? Letโ€™s do this!

This post is all about daily habits.

What are habits, and why are they so powerful?

Since I referenced James Clear in the introduction, I think itโ€™s only fair to go by his definition of habits: the small decisions you make and actions you perform everyday. They, according to researchers at Duke University, account for about 40% of our behaviors on any given day.

Yes, you read that correctly: FORTY percent of our daily behaviors. That means a pretty good number of decisions you make and actions you take everyday are based on your habits, which makes them so powerful.

Theyโ€™re also powerful because they can change your life if you choose healthy, positive habits that are aligned with your future self.

The #1 Rule

Before we go any further, I have a secret to share. When youโ€™re introducing a new habit, itโ€™s vital that you start small โ€” that means you need to pick an approachable habit and make slow, steady progress rather than jumping in at full speed.

Daily Habits:

1. Practice gratitude

I encourage you to practice gratitude every because no matter how tough your situation is, it can always be worse. (Now that I say this, it sounds painfully pessimistic, but I promise thatโ€™s not my intention.) I know many people dislike the phrase โ€œSomeone will always have it worse than you,โ€ so I wanted to but a slightly more reassuring twist on it. Iโ€™m sure they arenโ€™t trying to be condescending, but some occasionally give off the wrong idea.

Thereโ€™s numerous ways to express your gratitude. You can write in a gratitude journal, make a list of the things youโ€™re grateful, or simply say some โ€œIโ€™m grateful forโ€ฆโ€ statements. Whatever you feel comfortable doing, do it! I feel like you canโ€™t grow without slowing down and appreciating your blessings, so make sure you practice gratitude every single day. It only takes a few minutes!

2. Make your bed

I know, I know: you want to roll out of bed and get your day started. But when you make your bed, it almost feels like youโ€™re visually telling yourself that youโ€™re officially exiting rest mode and entering productive mode. Also, itโ€™s quite nice to walk into your room and see that your bed is put together. Thatโ€™s not too much to ask, is it?

Even if you donโ€™t make it look fresh out of Pinterest, at least pull the covers over to make it look like you put some effort into it. At the end of the day, youโ€™re likely the only person whoโ€™ll see it anyway, so as long as it looks good to you, thatโ€™s what matters most.

3. Do one physical activity

Do something every day to get your body moving.

Thereโ€™s about a million different physical activities to do, so itโ€™s really up to you to choose one you really enjoy. I personally love going on walks in my neighborhood and dancing in my bedroom. Walking is very peaceful and dancing allows you to express a shocking amount of negative (and even positive) emotions.

I understand these may not exactly me the most fun or exciting physical activities, so if you need some more ideas, check these out:

  • Jogging
  • Rock climbing
  • Yoga
  • Roller skating
  • Skateboarding
  • A 20-minute at-home workout

4. Say an affirmation

An affirmation is essentially a phrase that you say to affirm something in your life. Theyโ€™re a quietly powerful tool to use in your self-growth journey because youโ€™re speaking highly of yourself. Some affirmations, especially when youโ€™re just starting out, can feel slightly uncomfortable to say, but once you get the hang of it, youโ€™re unstoppable.

I encourage you to say at least one affirmation a day for any aspect of your life, whether itโ€™s your mental health, relationships, finances, physical health, education, or career. Saying one everyday (especially the same one) feels more effective since youโ€™re more consistent with it.

5. Be one with nature

My fellow homebody, I see and understand you. If it wasnโ€™t so unhealthy Iโ€™d probably lay in bed all day, but I would highly advise against that. You want to spend some time โ€” even if itโ€™s just 10 minutes โ€” outside every day. Breathe in some fresh air, feel the ground below you, and admire the beautiful sky. Thereโ€™s isnโ€™t a more grounding or relaxing experience, especially when youโ€™ve got a lot going on in your life and need a quick mental reset.

As I write this, I just went on a walk with my dog and brother yesterday and, let me tell you, it felt SO good. The weather was pretty nice and I hadnโ€™t walked my dog in a while, so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to get away from my phone and spend a good 20-30 minutes with two of my favorite people in the world. (No, my dog technically isnโ€™t a human, but with her being a Goldendoodle, she definitely looks and behaves like one.)

6. Do something out of your comfort zone

If you decide to only implement a handful of these daily habits in your routine, please let this be one of them:

Do something out of your comfort zone every day.

The more you expose yourself to your fears, the less fearful theyโ€™ll become. Iโ€™m not necessarily saying you need to do something that scares you because if thatโ€™s the case, youโ€™ll almost certainly end up doing more harm than good. What I am saying, though, is that you need to do something that feels both unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Thatโ€™s really the only way to grow!

7. Drink water

Iโ€™m obviously not a doctor of any sort, but I think we both know you need to take your water intake seriously. Water regulates your system, improves your skin, keeps your body hydrated, and so much more. I know water isnโ€™t exactly the tastiest drink, so you can add some lemon or use one of those flavored hydration packets if you need a bit more oomph.

I canโ€™t tell you exactly how much you need to drink every day since the amount depends on your weight, gender, physical activity, health status, and various other factors, but a good general rule of thumb is to drink at least 88 ounces a day. I 100% recommend doing your own research to discover the exact amount you personally need to drink because it may be slightly more or less.

8. Do one self-care activity

You deserve self-care everyday, so make it a daily habit to do some kind of self-care activity. Youโ€™ve got tons of options and itโ€™d take forever to list them here, so hereโ€™s just a few you can try (remember that self-care isnโ€™t just physical; itโ€™s universal):

  • Take an everything shower
  • Go on a solo date
  • Cook yourself a delicious meal
  • Go on a long, peaceful walk
  • Update your finances
  • Get a massage
  • Read a good book
  • Tend to your garden (or start one!)

9. Respond to a journal prompt

If youโ€™re a beginner, you probably wonโ€™t feel ready to journal every day just yet. But once (and if) you are ready, I think itโ€™s game-changing to make a habit out of daily journaling โ€” and you donโ€™t even have to be aggressive with it, either. Just set aside 10-20 minutes to write your heart out. Sometimes you have something you need to get off your chest, and your journal is a great place for those emotions to live.

I’ve got an entirely journaling category on my website if you’re really interestred in making journaling a daily habit. I suggest reading this one first, where I share 63 amazing journal prompts to answer throughout the year.

10. Check your finances

I donโ€™t like to talk about money too often because A) this isnโ€™t a personal finance blog and B) Iโ€™m the last person to get finance advice from. Money is just one of those topics where I know exactly what to do, but I just canโ€™t seem to get it right.

So, youโ€™d be better off asking ChatGPT to create a personalized money plan for you. Believe it or not, Iโ€™ve heard people do that and it completely transformed their finances, so maybe itโ€™s worth a try.

Okay, let me refocus.

I know a bad habit many of us have is avoiding checking our bank accounts. We donโ€™t want to see the effects of our poor spending habits, so we simply avoid them.

But when you mature and start checking them, you start spending a lot more wisely and consciously, so I definitely suggest that you start checking your finances every day. Look at your checking, retirement, investment, and savings accounts, and even your debt if you have any.

11. Smile

A smile is, in the best way possible, infectious. I canโ€™t fully or accurately describe what it feels like to be genuinely happy and smile. So, to put it simply, smile every day โ€” and if you believe thereโ€™s nothing to smile about, I challenge you to find something to smile about.

12. Work on a hobby

Hobbies, hobbies, hobbiesโ€ฆ ever since people were talking all about them on TikTok back in 2024, Iโ€™ve been really interested in them.

I actually like to do this thing I call โ€œhobby stackingโ€ (sort of like habit stacking), where I indulge in multiple hobbies at the same time. Sometimes they change depending on the mood Iโ€™m in, but they generally consist of listening to music, planning trips, reading Reddit posts, watching urban walking tours on YouTube, and/or updating my Pinterest boards.

I love hobbies because they give me something to look forward to every day โ€” and as someone who always used to feel that way, I feel quite fulfilled.

If you need some hobby ideas, Iโ€™ve got a jumbo post full of hobbies coming soon, so stay on the lookout! In the meantime, people share hobby ideas and talk about their hobbies all over Reddit. Thereโ€™s tons of subreddits dedicated to specific hobbies, so youโ€™ve got a really great community waiting for you!

13. Do an act of kindness

Whatever you put out into the world will come right back at you. Iโ€™m not necessarily saying thatโ€™s the sole reason you should be kind to others, but itโ€™s definitely something to consider.

Try to make it a habit to do one act of kindness every day, whether thatโ€™s holding the door for someone, genuinelycomplimenting someone, or reaching out to someone whoโ€™s been struggling lately. Whatever you decide to do, Iโ€™m sure itโ€™ll absolutely make their day, and no other feeling beats that.

14. Engage in one screen-free activity for 30 minutes

We spend a rather unhealthy amount of time on our screens nowadays, so itโ€™s vital that we carve out some time to do something that doesnโ€™t involve a 6- or 14-inch screen. Iโ€™m not sure if you know this, but thereโ€™s actually all sorts of activities you can do without your phone. So shocking, right? Who wouldโ€™ve known?

You can play a board game, read a book, journal, play with your pets, rearrange your bedroom โ€” anything that doesnโ€™t involve a screen. Just for 30 minutes. Thatโ€™s all Iโ€™m asking!

As Iโ€™m writing this on February 12, 2026, I just spend the entire day yesterday working on The Self Discovery Project. And when I say the entire day, I mean the entire day; I worked from 10AM to 10PM. Iโ€™ve found myself in this predicament a LOT lately, so Iโ€™ve been resorting to several screen-free activities, like walking outside and reading. And once I hit the 6-hour mark, I put both my phone and laptop on dark mode and night shift so I donโ€™t strain my eyes too much.

15. Spend time with a loved one

This one is particularly special because your loved ones wonโ€™t always be around, so you want to spend as much time with them as possible. You never want to regret not being with them more often, so while you still have the chance, set aside time to hang our with them.

Of course, schedules and other things get in the way, and I canโ€™t exactly say itโ€™s attainable to spend time with them every single day, but you definitely want to take any and every opportunity to be with them.

16. Do something that involves community

As individual and unique of an experience self-growth is, itโ€™s impossible to do it without a strong, supportive community by your side. So, every day, I want you to do something that involves community, whether itโ€™s a book club, a running club, a cooking class โ€” anything that connects you and others with the same shared interest.

Iโ€™d love to host some sort of community here on The Starform where we can share our stories and advice with each other. I donโ€™t know exactly when that concept will come into fruition, but I think itโ€™d be a great way for us to connect every day.

17. Do something to work toward your future self

I love a good full-circle momentโ€ฆ

Working on your future self is kind of our signature thing over here at The Starform. Like I said at the beginning of this post, habits can (and will) form you into a better person.

Self improvement surely isnโ€™t an overnight experience. As nice as itโ€™d be to wake up as a completely new person, that simply canโ€™t happen. So, you need take it slow and improve yourself day by day. Some days, that can look like writing letters to your future self, and other days, it might include strengthening a relationship thatโ€™s important to you.

Whatever it is, make it a daily habit to do something for your future self. This in itself allows you to grow, but in a more general sense, the habit is just as powerful.
